Non-bailable warrants issued against four cops
Karachi: A judge issued non-bailable warrants on Friday for the arrest of four policemen for failing to appear in court to give evidence in case of possession of illegal weapons. Judicial Magistrate (South) Hatim Aziz Solangi admonished the policemen, who are witnesses in the case of illegal arms allegedly possessed by a suspect, Mohammad Ismail.
The four police personnel of the Crime Investigation Department — Inspector Mohammad Shariq, Police Constable Mohammad Khan, Head Constable Tauqeer Ahmed and Assistant Sub-Inspector Hasan Asghar — were told on Friday to appear in court without fail on October 4.
Issuing non-bailable warrants for their arrest through the DIG, the court said that in case of non-appearance they would have to face severe consequences, including suspension of their posts and withholding of their salaries.
The suspect, Mohammad Ismail, is already in jail and facing charges of possessing illegal weapon under Section 13-D of the Arms and Ordinance in the year 2010. Since then, the policemen have not appeared in the court for recording their statements.
On Friday too, they did not turn up at the court, which annoyed the judge who issued their non-bailable arrest warrants. The court at the previous hearings had issued bailable warrants, but the policemen did not pay heed to them.
Assistant Public Prosecutor Syed Shamim Ahmed submitted that despite repeated warnings the policemen did not appear before the judge, which was tantamount to contempt of court.
