Islamabad: Young man throws acid on girl to take revenge
ISLAMABAD: A young man allegedly mutilated the face of a girl by throwing acid to take revenge from her for turning down his marriage proposal, police said on Wednesday. According to police, the incident took place near the Allama Iqbal Open University main campus in Sector H-8. Samia Khanum, aged 28, daughter of Muhammad Nazir, resident of Mandi Bahauddin, lodged a complaint with the Industrial Area Police. In the complaint, the alleged victim said that she wanted to take admission at the Allama Iqbal Open University. “Azhar Hussain Shah, a young man living in her neighbourhood, told me that he has good links in the university and offered help to me in getting admission there. He offered me his company to the AIOU.”
“We left Mandi Bahauddin without informing my parents and reached Islamabad on Tuesday evening. We stayed in a hotel of Pirwadhai. On Wednesday morning, we left for the AIOU,” Samia told police. According to her, they met a teacher in the university for admission.
According to the girl, Azhar told her that he was feeling severe pain in his stomach and asked her to take him to the hospital. “As we came out of the main gate of the AIOU, he took me to the greenbelt near the gate of the university. There he took out a bottle from his pocket and threw some liquid on my face and body and escaped from the scene,” she told police.
Upon hearing the girl’s cries for help, passersby rushed towards her and shifted her to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.
Police claimed that the suspect had fallen in love with Samia, however, she refused his proposal for marriage.
Police said that a case of Samia’s kidnapping has been lodged with the Saddar Police Station in Mandi Bahauddin on the complaint of her parents. According to police, the girl has refused to record statement in the absence of her parents.
