Karachi: 3 ‘extortionists’ arrested
Karachi: Personnel of the Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) claimed on Wednesday to have arrested two suspects belonging to the Lyari gang war groups who were involved in murder and extortion.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Javed Akber Riaz of the ACLC, Sindh, said that investigations in extortion and target killing cases were under way when an informant tipped him off about the presence of wanted extortionists and murderers in Baldia Town.
Acting on the tip-off, he instructed an ACLC team to conduct a raid. After an encounter, the team arrested Shahjehan Baloch and Munir Ahmed and seized arms.
The suspects were moved to the investigation unit for interrogation. During the interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in target killing and extortion offences. They also confessed to murdering traders Noor Mohammad, Mohammad Sharif and Subhanullah in Baldia Town on the latter’s refusal to pay extortion money.
