3 CNG stations of PML-N MNA sealed
Lahore: The Sui Northern Gas Pipeline (SNGPL) has sealed three CNG stations of PML-N MNA Mian Javed Latif in Sheikhupura district on account of meter-tempering and gas-theft, sources in the SNGPL revealed on Friday.
According to the sources, the CNG pumps sealed by the SNGPL include Aliz CNG Feroze Watoowan, Mian Petroleum Sheikhupura Chowk and Al-Rehman CNG on the Lahore-Sheikhupura Road.
The sources said the gas stations were found involved in meter tempering and gas theft, causing loss of millions of rupees to the public exchequer. The SNGPL team raided the pumps and sealed them on account of the charges.
When contacted, Abdul Salam, CE/Regional Manager SNGPL Sheikhupura, confirmed that three gas stations of PML-N MNA Javed Latif were sealed for gas-theft and meter tempering. One of the gas-stations was sealed on Wednesday while the other two were sealed on Thursday morning, he said. When the SNGPL teams raided the gas stations, he added, Javed Latif s armed men started aerial firing to harass them. They called on 15 but the police did not respond, he said. Because Javed Latif belongs to the ruling party of Punjab, the police did not dare move against him, he maintained.
Abdul Salam said the SNGPL earlier had replaced the meters of the said CNG stations on the suspicious of gas-theft and meter tempering. During laboratory test, he said, it was proved that meters of the said gas stations were tempered with. In the light of laboratory test reports, the SNGPL administration decided to remove the replaced meters and sealed the gas stations, he maintained.
He also disclosed that, previously, whenever SNGPL teams inspected the gas stations of Javed Latif, his (Javed‘s) men manhandled the SNGPL staff. It is for the first time that action has taken against the CNG stations, he added.
He said that, two months back, a fine of Rs 40million had been imposed on the gas-stations on account of meter tempering and gas-theft. Out of the total amount of fine, only a small amount had been paid, he said. When contacted, Javed Latif s PSO, Yasir, said, Mian sahib is offering prayer. He said he would convey the message to Javed Latif. After a few minutes, Yasir called back and said Mian Javed Latif had no concern with the said gas-stations. He said neither Javed Latif nor any of his family members owned the CNG stations.
