Karachi: 12 more target killing suspects arrested
Karachi: As law enforcement agencies continued with their efforts to gain the upper hand against criminals disrupting peace in the city, 12 more target killing suspects were arrested on Friday from different parts of the city.
Personnel of Anti-Extremism Cell (AEC) of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Sindh arrested three suspected target killers allegedly involved in a number of murder cases and also recovered weapons from their possession. During interrogation, one of the accused confessed to killing as many as 43 people, while another admitted to the murders of over 20 people.
SSP Mohammed Aslam Khan of AEC said that after receiving a tip-off, raids were conducted in the Peerabad and PIB Colony police limits. After brief encounters, the police arrested Sohail alias Ahmed alias Liaquatabad Wala, Naeem Khanzada and Mohammed Kashif also known as Shakeel Burger.
The accused were later shifted to the investigation unit for interrogation. The police also recovered five Kalashnikovs, four hand grenades, three TT pistols, three 9mm pistols, one rifle and ammunition for different types of weapons.
SSP Khan said that they were interrogating the three accused separately, adding that all the suspects belonged to Karachi-based political parties. One of the suspects, Sohail alias Liaquatabad Wala, confessed to murdering 43 people in targeted violence at various intervals.
In his statement, Liaquatabad Wala said that he and his accomplices used 9mm and 30 Bore pistols in their targeted killings. In addition to this, he confessed that he and his companions attacked a hotel near Old Sabzi Mandi in which four Pathans who were eating dinner were injured.
In 2007, they had killed a man who was traveling in a car in Goharabad of PIB Colony. A year later in 2008, a man named Saleem was also targeted by the accused on suspicion of being a police informant. The victim was killed in the Super Market police limits. Sohail and his companions also allegedly killed three more people in the Super Market police limits who were also suspected of being police spies.
The following year in 2009, the suspects attacked hotel Naan Bai situated in PIB Colony. On this occasion, at least two people were killed. In addition to this, the suspects also killed a man in the B Area of Nagan Village. This victim was also suspected of providing information to the police.
Again in 2009, Sohail and his accomplice had targeted MQM-H activist Fahim in Liaquatabad No-6. During the same year, the suspect killed another activist of the same party in Liaquatabad No-10. Ijaz was also targeted by the same group in the Super Market police limits because he was a supporter of MQM-H.
The suspects also killed a watchman at a plot situated near the Bismillah hotel of PIB Colony in the month of April, 2010. Sohail Liaquatabad Wala further disclosed that on the directions of group leader Imran alias Mamoo, they targeted a Pathan taxi driver in the Super Market police limits.
He also disclosed that during the year 2011, group leader Imran alias Mamoo, called him to Teqoon park and told him that Imran alias Haqiqi Wala, a hardcore activist of MQM-H, was coming to the Super market area as celebrations for his sister’s wedding were underway.
As per their plan, they waited for the ceremony to end. The target, Imran and his family were returning home and reached the Jandha Wali Road when the suspects launched their attack. Imran retaliated and managed to save his family, but a man named Kamran was killed in the crossfire. The unfortunate victim’s wife and children were also injured in this incident. The suspects managed to escape from the scene of the crime. A case was subsequently lodged by the Super Market police station.
In August 2011, the suspects targeted two Baloch men in the Press Quarter area of PIB Colony and used 9mm and 30 Bore pistols, while riding on two motorcycles during this attack.
Around three weeks ago, the accused along with and his accomplices carried out a targeted attack near Civic View Apartments in the Aziz Bhatti police limits. Three people were killed in this attack. These victims were also activists of a political party.
During interrogation, the other accused Naeem Khanzada confessed that these killers would use 9mm and Kalashnikovs during their violent attacks. He told the investigators that he and his accomplices targeted a Suzuki van passing through SITE carrying men, women and children on August 1, 2011. Two people identified as Abdul Hakeem and Saiful Islaam lost their lives in this offence.
He also confessed that he and his accomplice attacked a Mashallah Coach on July 7, 2011 in the SITE-A police limits in which two people were killed, while four others were injured. On August 20, 2011 he and his accomplice attacked a bus traveling along the 1-D route in the SITE-A police limits and also targeted a Muttahida Qaumi Movement activist named Mohammed Nadeem.
Khanzada also confessed to targeting a private van in the Orangi Town area on July-18, 2011, in which several Urdu speaking people were traveling. They had opened indiscriminate fire due to which Syed Naveed Ahmed was killed, while others sustained injuries.
In the Peerabad area, Mohammed Suleman alias Raza was targeted by the suspect. Narrating the offence, Khanzada told investigators that the victim was standing at a general store in the Qasba Colony when he was targeted. The deceased was also Urdu-speaking.
The suspect, Naeem alias Khanzada confessed of murdering 22 Urdu speaking, including those mentioned above. The third suspect, Kashif alias Shakeel Burger told probers that he and his accomplices targeted two Pathans who were running a hotel in the Liaquatabad in March-2007. He also confessed to several other targeted attacks.
On Friday night, police claimed to have arrested five suspected target killers – Sanaullah, Abid Mastoi, Ansar, Golab Shah and Ejaz – from Hossein Hazara Goth. The police said two Kalashnikovs and eight TT pistols were recovered from those held.
The arrests suspects were said to be associated with different political parties. Late on Friday night, Sharea Faisal SHO Ch. Azam said that police four target killing suspects had been arrested. He said the suspects had confessed to killing eight people.
