Lahore: Road blocked against police
LAHORE: A strong protest was lodged on Allama Iqbal Road near Garhi Shahu Chowk on Sunday a day after the local police allegedly tortured a vendor over parking dispute.
The victim identified as Khalilur Rehman of Garhi Shahu was brought to the road on a charpoy by the relatives who blocked traffic for half an hour and set ablaze tyres. The protesters chanted slogans and demanded stern action against the policemen responsible for torture.
The family alleged that Khalil was thrashed after he just asked a police driver to move his vehicle parked in front of his cart. According to the family, the policeman punched Khalil who gripped on to the official to avoid falling on the ground. As a result the uniform of the official was torn and he overpowered the vendor along with his fellows. They took him to police station and subjected him to severe torture. The victim was later released by the police after intervention of the notables. He was shifted to Services Hospital for treatment. Neither the Garhi Shahu circle DSP nor the SHO was available for comments.
