Pro-govt tribal elder shot dead in Bajaur
KHAR: A pro-government tribal elder and member of local peace committee was shot dead in Malangi area of Bajaur tribal region on Sunday night.
Sources said that unidentified persons gunned down Malak Aziz Khan, a senior member of Malangi Peace Committee, when he was coming home after offering Isha prayer at a nearby mosque.
No group has claimed responsibility for his killing. The residents of the area said that Malak Aziz had no enmity with anyone. However, he was receiving threats from militants for the last few months for supporting government and forming peace committees.
The political administration launched a search operation in the area after the incident. Four suspected persons were arrested during the operation. They were shifted to undisclosed location for interrogation.
Meanwhile, militants fired five mortar shells at different localities and a security man was injured in a landmine blast in Mohmand tribal region on Monday.

Two of the shells landed in Civil Colony, two in fields near FC camp and one hit a hill in Ghalani. However, no casualty was reported in the attack.
The security forces later launched a search operation in the surrounding localities and mountains of Gandow but didn`t arrest anyone. Residents said that local Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
In Shanikhel area of tehsil Haleemzai security forces arrested a tribesman and demolished his house. In another incident, a security man was injured in a landmine explosion in Anargai area of Baizai subdivision.
In Khyber Agency, activists of a tribal lashkar torched the houses of at least three militants in Bara on Tuesday. Sources said that volunteers of Akkakhel lashkar set the houses of Lashkar-i-Islam supporters on fire in different localities. Sources said that the houses were torched in reaction to militants attack on a checkpost of the lashkar in which four volunteers and a khasadar had been killed.
Also in Akkakhel, militants mutilated the body of a volunteer. Jadran Khan, the volunteer, was killed in militants attack on the checkpost in Dro Adda on Sunday night. Militants reportedly took his body and cut it into pieces.
