Soldier hurt in Mohmand blast

GHALANAI: A soldier was injured in a roadside blast on Monday in the Baizai subdivision of Mohmand Agency, sources said. The sources said the militants had planted an improvised explosive device at the roadside near the Ziarat post in Anargai in Baizai subdivision. The explosion was triggered with a remote-controlled device when the forces were passing through the area.

 

A soldier sustained injuries in the explosion but his identity could not be ascertained. The militants also fired five mortar shells at the agency headquarters, Ghalanai, the sources said and added that two shells landed in the Civil Colony and another two fell in the ground of the FC Camp.

One shell hit the mountains outside the Ghallanai Bazaar. The sources, however, added that no human or material loss occurred in the mortar attack as all the shells fell in the open area. The TTP, Mohmand Agency chapter, claimed responsibility for the mortar attack.

Also, security forces demolished a house in the Shanikhel area in Haleemzai Tehsil and arrested the owner of the house. Our correspondent adds from Mardan: Unidentified militants blew up a primary school in Rustam village early Monday, sources said.

An explosive device planted at the Government Primary School in Jalal Killay went off at 2am. Two rooms of the school were damaged in the blast.

During the last month, four schools have been blown up in Bakhshali village and its surrounding areas. Our correspondent adds from Landikotal: The driver of a container was killed while his helper sustained bullet injuries when gunmen opened fire on the Afghanistan-bound containers and oil-tankers on the Bazaar Bypass in Landikotal Tehsil, sources said on Monday night. The sources said a convoy of trucks and oil-tankers carrying Nato and private company consignments to Afghanistan was ambushed near the Government High School at 9:50 pm.



The driver of the container (4262-K), identified as Sahar Gul, a resident of Shekhmalkhel village in Landikotal, was killed on the spot while his helper Noor Said, resident of Orakzai Agency, suffered bullet wounds and was shifted to the Landikotal Hospital.

Our correspondent adds from Miramshah: Unknown armed men on Monday kidnapped an official of the political administration from Miranshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan, and shifted him to an undisclosed location.

Sources told The News that a group of armed men who had covered their faces intercepted Mohammad Alam Jan, political muharrar of the political administration, in Miramshah bazaar and bundled him into a car.

Eyewitness said that Mohammad Alam Jan offered resistance that caused him some injuries. The armed men, however, overpowered him and put him in a car and shifted him to an unknown location. The official belonged to Hamzoni village but lived at the Civil Colony in Miranshah.

Our correspondent adds from Mingora: The police on Monday arrested a militant during a raid at a house in Banjot area of Mingora, sources said.
