80 suspects, including 2 target killers, detained
KARACHI: The law enforcement agencies (LEAs) on Tuesday claimed to have arrested over 80 suspects, including two extortionists and two target killers, in the surgical operation conducted in various parts of the metropolis.
According to sources, some 65 suspects were held during house-to-house search in Pak Colony, Old Golimar. They said LEAs sealed all the interior roads of Old Golimar, Gutter Baghicha and its surrounding areas and detained around 65 suspects, besides recovering weapons from their possession.
The sources further said that heavy contingents of Rangers, female personnel, commandos and policemen participated in the surgical operation.
According to eyewitnesses, the vicinities of Orangi Town were fully besieged while detained people were gathered at an open place for interrogation. They said the residents of these areas also staged a protest against the operation, blaming Rangers for detaining innocent people without any reason.
A Pakistan Rangers, Sindh spokesman said that LEAs conducted raids in Pak Colony and its adjacent areas and detained several suspects, besides recovering several types of weapons from their possession.
Crime Investigation Department (CID), Sindh Police, has claimed arresting a target killer and recovering a weapon from his possession. SSP CID Fayyaz Khan said a police party conducted a raid on a tip-off at Site area, arrested a target killer Syed Shah Anwar alias Shah Jee and recovered a Kalashnikov and several bullet rounds from his possession.
The SSP said the accused had confessed to killing 16 people, including Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s activists Rashid, Javed, Waqar, Akhtar, Tahir, Nadeem, Sher Ali, Shafiq in Orangi, Pirabad and other areas. The officer said the accused belonged to a political party. Further investigation was underway.
The accused was also involved in the killings of six people in firing opened by him along with his accomplices on 1-D bus in Pirabad area.
Another alleged target killer, identified as Shahid alias Darinda, has been nabbed in a search operation in Orangi Town late Monday night. Sources said that the accused was arrested from Sector 10, Orangi Town, who was wanted to police in a number of murder cases, the sources added.
Officials also claimed seizure of large quantity of arms and ammunition from his possession including two kalashnikovs, a repeater and rounds of bullets.
Meanwhile, police arrested two alleged extortionists Javed and Asif from Kharadar and recovered weapons from their possession. They said the accused had demanded extortion from a dental doctor Abdul Aziz.
Separately, LEAs also conducted a raid at Manghopir road area and arrested two men, including Naib Shah, and recovered some items of a NATO container.
