Mortar shell blast kills three in Tharparkar

SUKKUR: Three persons, including two children, were killed when a mortar shell went off here in Khipro on Thursday. Police said some children of the Meu Takar Village in Tharparkar found a live mortar shell while playing in the fields and assuming it as a toy brought it to their home. When one of the children hit it with a stone it blew up killing the two, 9-year-old Juman and 12-year-old Raja Ramesh, on the spot while injuring seven others.

On hearing the explosion, police rushed to the site and shifted the injured to a Tharparkar hospital but as the hospital was submerged in rainwater, the injured were later taken to a Hyderabad hospital. One of the injured Dilip (18) succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. Meanwhile, police and other law enforcement agencies are investigating the incident.
