Karachi: Ex-SHO held in robbery case
KARACHI: The Khawaja Ajmair Nagri police on Friday detained a police officer for allegedly snatching Rs180,000 from a real estate dealer in a recent robbery that also left the victim injured, a senior official said.
He said inspector Amir Khan was identified by a witness, who claimed to have seen him snatching cash from Malik Abdul Rasheed near the Power House Chowrangi in North Karachi on Sept 19.
The robbery was committed by armed men who used a car to execute the job, he added. “Later police recorded the statement of an eyewitness who claimed to have seen inspector Amir Khan, the former New Karachi Industrial Area SHO, committing the crime,” said Salam Sheikh, the area`s SP.
“The police then showed a photograph of the inspector to Malik Abdul Rasheed, who is under treatment in a hospital, and he also verified the eyewitness`s claim.”
Finally, the police detained the inspector, the SP said. However, he did not explain as to why an FIR against the police officer was not registered even after he had been identified by the victim and the eyewitness.
“We have not arrested him but have detained him as the officer denies the charges. We are also looking into the possibility of some enmity between the two sides presuming that one may be exploiting the robbery to settle a score with the other,” SP Sheikh argued.
