Chakwal: Robbers’ gang busted
CHAKWAL, Sept 24: Saddar Police have finally busted a gang of dacoits involved in various incidents of robberies, District Police Officer Syed Ali Mohsin said on Saturday.
Talking to newsmen DPO said that all the seven members of the gang were arrested on Wednesday when they were about to strike at a house.
“SHO Tanveer Waraich along with his team not only thwarted robbers’ mission but also busted them at the spot”, he said. The seven dacoits were identified as, Mushtaq, Alim Shair, Mansha, Akram, Liaquat Ali, Khalid and Munnawar. The first four belonged to Chunian while others hailed from Kundal.
Weapons were also recovered from their possession. DPO said that the gang was active in various districts of Punjab. “They confessed of committing twenty-six robberies in various districts of Punjab and they were demanded by Lahore, Kasur and Shaikhupura Police”, said DPO. He said that the gang recently struck in villages of Chakwal and looted cash, jewelry and other valuables worth millions of rupees. He further said that all the stolen goods would be recovered soon from the possession of the robbers. “The residents of Chakwal were scared due to the incessant incidents of robberies. The dacoits also misbehaved with women while plundering the houses”, he said.
Replying to a question regarding increasing incidents of looting by highwaymen in tehsil Choa Syedan Shah, DPO Mohsin said that extra measure had been taken to curb such incidents. “I have appointed a new SHO in the area and I hope he would arrest the criminals soon”, he said. He urged the citizens to cooperate with police. “Police is helpless without the citizens’cooperation, he said.
Talking to Dawn the victims expressed their satisfaction over the performance of Police. “We are thankful to the police for arresting this dangerous gang. These robbers struck at our house few weeks ago”, Nisar Ahmed a resident of Odherwal told Dawn.
