Karachi: 14, including 10 target killers, held during raids

KARACHI: Sindh Police on Monday claimed to have arrested 14 people, including ten target killers, along with their weapons during raids in several areas of the metropolis.

 

According to reports, Anti-Extremists Cell of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Sindh Police arrested four target killers and recovered weapons from their possession. SSP Chauhadry Aslam said a police party conducted raid in Rasheedabad, Baldia on a tip off and arrested four target killers namely Anees-ur-Rehman, Abdul Rehman, Aslam Pirzada and Nasir Saeed, recovering a Kalashnikov, three pistols and several rounds from their possession.

The SSP said that during initial interrogation, the accused confessed to have been involved in eight cases of target killings, including murders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf activist Hafeez-ur-Rehman alias Botal in April 2009, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) activist Qamar Abbas alias Gogi in May 2009, Sunni Tehreek activist Farhan Qadri and his wife in Baldia in April 2011, Awami National Party UC-7 Baldia president Khalid Khan in May 2010 and another PPP activist Zafar alias Supari in August 2010.

The police officer said that they were also involved in many cases of riots and confessed to have arsoned a furniture factory in Baldia, Sector D-3 in August 2010. The SSP said that Anees was the gang leader and further investigation from the group was underway.

Separately, CID arrested a man involved in the rape and murder of minor girl, from Gulshan-e-Iqbal. SSP Fayyaz Khan said that a police party conducted raid in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on tip off and arrested Alam Khan Mehsud allegedly involved in the rape and murder case of minor girl at Sohrab Goth. CID also recovered a TT pistol from the accused possession. SSP Khan said Mehsud belonged to a political party and an FIR (574/11) was registered against him at Sohrab Goth police station. He further said after murdering the eight-year-old girl, he had fled to Gulshan-e-Iqbal area. Further investigation is underway.



Meanwhile, Special Investigation Unit (SIU) arrested a target killer allegedly involved in noine murder cases, including of five banned outfit Sipah Sahaba Pakistan (SSP)’s activists. According to SIU officials they conducted raid at New Karachi Industrial Area and arrested Javed Hanif belonging to a religious political party. They said during initial interrogation he confessed to have killed five SSP activists and four other people over his personal disputes. Further investigation is in progress.

Special Investigation Team Zone East claimed to have arrested two target killers namely Sher-ul-Hakeem and Amjad from Quaidabad and recovered one SMG, one 7mm rifle, one triple two rifle and a pistol from their possession. The accused belong to a political party and confessed to have killed four people during initial interrogation.

Zaman Town police conducted a raid at Korangi No 1½ and arrested two men namely Amjad and Sher Hafiz along with two TT pistols. Police said that the accused were involved in two target killing cases and belonged to a political party.

Separately, Khawaja Ajmair Nagri police arrested three men, Mohammad Rehan, Mohammad Akram and Imran, after an encounter near Zareena Colony, North Karachi and recovered three TT pistols and a dozen rounds from their possessions. DSP Altaf Hussain said they were involved in several cases of robbery and attempts to murder. Police have registered an FIR (353/11) against them.
