KARACHI: Sindh Police claimed to have arrested eight people, including an extortionist and a target killer, and recovered weapons from their possession in separate raids at different areas of the metropolis on Tuesday.
Sindh Police’s Crime Branch claimed to have arrested a chief of extortionist group, besides seizing a huge cache of weapons from his possession. The suspect identified as Akbar Zada is named in a number of extortion cases and his arrest was made on a tip-off from his house located in Rasheedabad.
SSP Farooq Awan said that his group comprised of nearly six members and had been involved in various cases of extortion received from the factories of Rasheedabad. He also claimed to have recovered a Kalashnikov, 7mm rifle, 8mm rifle, repeater and five pistols from his possession. Further investigation from the accused is underway while police are also conducting raids for the arrest of his associates.
Separately, a special police party of Zone East conducted a raid at Korangi and arrested four men Nadeem alias Grenade, Usman Burney, Naeem alias Bablu and Mansoor alias Mansha and recovered four TT pistols from their possessions. Police said the group was involved in several crimes while Nadeem was nominated in a target killing case registered at Korangi Industrial Area police station. Further investigation is in progress.
Meanwhile, Sharafi Goth police arrested three criminals Asghar, Noor Zamin and Iqbal after an encounter from Landhi and recovered weapons from their possessions. Police said they were involved in attempts to murder, robbery and several other cases of street crimes.
