Lahore: Police officer shot dead over enmity
LAHORE: A serving Sub Inspector of Lower Mall Police, also an additional SHO, was shot dead allegedly by his rivals near Usman Chowk, Data Nagar Pull, when he was on his way on a bike in the Badami Bagh police limits on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Naveed Bhatti, son of Tufail Bahtti of Badami Bagh area. The deceased official left his house to reach Lower Mall police station on early Tuesday. As Naveed Bhatti reached Data Nagar Pull near Usman Chowk, some unidentified persons ambushed him. The accused opened indiscriminate fire on the officer and fled the scene. As a result, he sustained five bullets on his body, a police official told this scribe. He said Naveed had died on the spot.
Some passers-by rushed him to a local hospital where he was pronounced as brought dead. After the death news of SI Naveed, his relatives gathered on the spot and chanted slogans against the police, as they claimed that Badami Bagh police had reached the spot very late.
The angry protesters burnt tyres and blocked the road for over an hour. Local police and some officers concerned reached the spot, inspected crime scene and collected forensic evidences.
Police shifted the body to city morgue for autopsy. A police officer claimed that the SI had been shot dead by his rivals, as he was the complainant in an FIR of his brother’s death who was shot dead some time back by the rivals.
He said the rivals of the deceased cop, including Zeeshan, Bilal and others, had shot dead Zeeshan, brother of deceased SI, after another brother of deceased named Babli had killed a member of the rival group.
Police have registered a case against Zeeshan, Bilal, Shahbaz and Tanveer on the complaint of deceased s nephew Arsalan. Police said no one could be arrested so far.
