Vehari: Man shoots wife, daughter over refusing proposal
VEHARI: A man shot his wife and daughter over a domestic dispute involving a marriage proposal on Monday. According to police officials, Danewal resident Mushtaq Ahmed Younis allegedly killed his 14-year-old daughter Muqadas Bibi and wife Musarrat Bibi. Neighbours told police that Younis had planned to marry his daughter to his nephew Mudassir but his wife refused.
“She kept saying that the boy was a drunkard and that she would not allow the marriage. Eventually she took her daughters and son and went to her parent’s house in a neighbouring village,” said Younis’s neighbour Qasim Ali.
Police officials said that Younis followed the family to his in-law’s house on the pretext of a reconciliation. “He asked me where she had gone and said that he regretted their arguments and just wanted his family back. I told him where they were because I thought they were going to reconcile, instead they ended up dead,” Ali said.
On Tuesday morning, Younis and his nephew Mudassir went to Musarrat Bibi’s parent’s house and shot his wife and daughter. Locals in the area said that he shot wife and daughter and by the time neighbours arrived at the scene both women were lying in a pool of blood. “They had escaped before we could catch them and the bodies of the women had been piled onto each other,” said a villager Rehmat Khan. “I called the police to the scene,” he added.
Police officials sent the bodies to the THQ hospital for a postmortem and have apprehended Mushtaq Younis. “We are searching for his nephew Mudassir and will arrest him as soon as possible,” inspector Rana Javed said. Younis confessed to the crime and told police that he had no regrets over what he had done. “My wife and daughter were dishonourable.
My daughter wanted to marry of her own will and my wife was encouraging her in this. It was my duty to decide who she would marry and when she refused I killed her,” he said.
