Karachi: 9 notorious criminals, including 3 target killers, held
KARACHI: The law enforcement agencies (LEAs) claimed to have arrested nine notorious criminals, including three target killers and four extortionists, from different parts of the city on Thursday.
According to sources, the LEAs raided a house located in Azamnagar and arrested a notorious criminal Atif Shah and recovered two Kalashnikovs, two shotguns and a bag full of bullets from his possession. Sources said that one of his accomplices 3 Ansari was later arrested on Shah’s information from Liaquatabad No 6, while two others, Fareed Akram and Rashid, managed to escape from the scene. LEAs shifted them to an unknown location for further investigation.
Sindh Rangers also claimed to have arrested an alleged target killer Yameen, who was accused in the murder case of a political activist, from New Karachi Sector 5E. They also recovered a pistol from his possession.
Separately, the Anti-Violence Crime Cell (AVCC), after a brief encounter, arrested three extortionists, Hassan Ali, Muntazir and Mubashir, from one of the architects’ offices located near Nipa roundabout.
SP Usman Ghani said the action was taken on information received from an architect that the alleged extortionists, who demanded Rs 1.8 million extortion money, are going to collect the same on Thursday. Reacting on the said information, the team of AVCC conducted a raid at the office and arrested the extortionists with weapons.
SP Ghani said the detained persons portrayed to be the activists of Pakistan Muslim League-Functional, Muttahida Qaumi Movement or Lyari gangsters to get extortion money and had already collected Rs 1.5 million. Further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, Crime Investigation Department (CID) of the Sindh Police claimed to have arrested a target killer from Orangi Town and recovered TT pistol from his possession. SSP CID Fayyaz Khan said a police party conducted raid at Orangi Town and after an encounter arrested Afzal alias Ganja recovering a TT pistol from his possession.
SSP Khan added that during interrogation Afzal confessed to have been involved in five target killings, including murders of Sohail, Miskeen and three unidentified men in Pirabad. He said that the accused also used to receive extortion, belonged to a political party. The officer further said that the accused worked under a man Anees alias Tony adding that he also set ablaze two houses of the workers of rival party in Orangi Town along with his companions, namely Kamil and Fahim. Afzal also confessed to have been involved in transfer of weapons to other places in ambulances. Further investigation is underway.
Separately, the Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) nabbed a car-lifter Sohail Butt from Mominabad, Orangi Town. The ACLC official said accused Butt was also involved in the murder of ASI Sohail Akhtar in Mominabad police limits. SP ACLC Javed Akbar Riaz said that the ACLC team had also recovered a snatched bike and a TT pistol from his possession. The SP added victim Akhter was deployed at Taimuria police station and was a resident of Mominabad area where Butt had targeted him. Further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, Saeedabad police conducted a raid at Dawood Goth and arrested two suspects Kamran alias Kami and Fayyaz, who were said to have been involved in several robbery bids and a dual-murder case of political workers.
