25 miners, four labourers kidnapped in Bara
BARA: Militants kidnapped 25 miners and four labourers from the Mangoti area of Kalakhel in Bara Tehsil of Khyber Agency, tribal sources said on Friday.
Sources said around a dozen militants stormed the coalmines in the Mangoti area bordering the Frontier Region, Peshawar, late Thursday night and kidnapped some 25 miners at gunpoint. They also kidnapped four labourers working on an under-construction road in the area and shifted them to an unknown location, sources said, adding that no individuals or group had yet claimed responsibility for the act.
When contacted, the Tehsildar of Kalakhel area, Ghuncha Gul, confirmed that 34 workers had been kidnapped, 30 from Shangla and four from Lakki Marwat. He said efforts were on through a tribal Jirga to secure the safe release of the workers.
Some of the miners were identified as Muhammad Alam Marwat, Saifullah Marwat, Gul Saeed Marwat, Zubair Marwat, Omer Daraz, Sher Baz, Muhammad Khan and Muhammad Shahbaz. Some 20 miners were kidnapped by militants belonging to the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), led by Tariq Afridi, from Akhorwal area of the Frontier Region, Kohat, about four months back. Following successful negotiations with tribal elders and payment of ransom to the militants by relatives of the captives, 16 of them were released on August 16. The remaining four miners were recovered by the Kukikhel tribe from the private prison of militants during action against the TTP militants in Tirah Valley last August.
