Islamabad: Terrorism bid foiled in Islamabad, two arrested — Video
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Police have successfully aborted another plot of terrorism in the federal capital, arrested two terrorists and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition from a vehicle at a check post near Taramri Chowk in the jurisdiction of Shahzad Town Police Station and later from terrorists’ hideout in Chattha Bakhtawar, police sources told this scribe here on Saturday.
Police on the information provided by the nabbed terrorists recovered 12 rocket launchers, 14 rockets (106 and 107 R kind of missiles), 16 rocket fuses, 4 suicide jackets, 14 hand grenades, heavy quantity of explosive powder, a gallon of liquid explosive and a bundle connecting wires from terrorists hideout in Chattha Bakhtawar, the police sources said adding that 90 intoxicating injections ‘Amoral’ were also recovered from the house, which were for the use to paralyse the mental capability of young suicide bombers.
“These are brain paralysing injections,” the police said. A suspect has been identified as Mohsin Khan belonging to North Waziristan while the other person has not been identified so far.
The terrorists outfit had planned to blow up sensitive buildings and installations in Islamabad, the sources, quoting preliminary statements of the alleged terrorists, disclosed adding that the area where they were blocked, was highly sensitive as buildings and offices of sensitive agencies were housing a few hundred yards from the police picket.
The suspects, after the preliminary investigation, led the police to the hideout located in Chattha Bakhtawar, the police sources said adding that the police conducted the raid and recovered heavy cache of weapons and ammunition stored in the house being used as ‘ammunition depot’.
The two suspects were shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigations. The sources said some persons had been arrested in connection with the foiled attempt of terrorism.
Inspector General of Police (Islamabad) Bani-Amin Khan termed it as a remarkable achievement of the Islamabad Police while talking to this correspondent, saying that a disastrous act of terrorism has been thwarted by law enforcers, as they acted promptly.
The police sources said that the security was put on high alert in the city and police officials were directed to maintain high vigilance following the information provided by the intelligence agencies.
In compliance of these directions, special security arrangements were made at inner and outer cordons of the city including rural areas.
Investigation is underway from the nabbed persons and police are hopeful to get further important information from them.
