Islamabad: BHC official held on human smuggling charges
ISLAMABAD: Anti-Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Saturday claimed to have arrested an Assistant Visa Officer of the British High Commission (BHC) on the charges of human smuggling and selling UK sponsorship certificates.
The FIA authorities giving details said that Khurram Shahzad, a Junior Visa Officer of the BHC in Islamabad, was arrested on a tip-off that he was selling original UK sponsorship certificates to the innocent people after receiving heavy money from them.
“We have recovered UK sponsorship certificates from him while his three other accomplices have also been arrested along with a dozen passports in the Lal Kurti area of Rawalpindi on a hint given by Shahzad,” an FIA official informed.
A spokesman of the British High Commission, Islamabad confirmed that FIA had arrested one of their visa officers. However, he further informed that he had no details on what charges he had been arrested.
