5 alleged target killers, gang war member arrested
KARACHI: Five alleged target killers and an alleged member of the gang war were arrested during separate raids in different parts of the city on Wednesday.
Anti-Extremist Cell (AEC) of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) claimed to have apprehended two alleged target killers. AEC chief SSP Chaudhry Aslam Khan said that the suspects identified as Obaid Khan, alias Burst and Tariq Mustafa alias Arif Burger were arrested during a raid inside a graveyard in Islamia Colony, Orangi Town within the jurisdiction of Pirabad police station. SSP Khan also claimed to have recovered one Kalashnikov and two 9mm pistols from their possessions. Khan said that during the course of interrogation it was revealed that the accused were affiliated with a political party but the officer did not disclose their affiliations. He said that the accused persons had been involved in nearly 39 cases of target killings in various parts of the city, adding that they were also involved in the murder of PPP activist Salam alias Salamu in Orangi Town and also attacked central leader of Awami National Party (ANP) Bashir Jan and his guard near Gharibabad in January. Further investigation was in progress.
Separately, Clifton police claimed to have arrested at least two alleged target killers allegedly involved in several cases of target killings. The suspects were identified as Daniyal and Faisal Ansari. They were arrested from Zamzama, DHA Phase V. SHO Shafiq Tanoli said that the accused persons came to Zamzama for some work and police reached the site on the information about their presence, adding that they opened fire on the police party when they were intercepted and later police arrested them after a brief encounter.
SHO Tanoli said that the suspects belonged to a political party but their political affiliation was not shared with media. He said that the suspects were the residents of Baldia Town and during initial interrogation, they confessed to have killed at least 30 people belonging to various ethnicities and political parties, including ANP and People’s Amn Committee, and majority of them were killed in Baldia and Orangi Towns. Two sub-machine guns, two TT pistols and a motorcycle were also recovered from their possessions, said the officer, adding that further investigation was in progress.
Earlier, LEAs conducted a raid in Angara Goth in Liaquatabad and detained an alleged member of the Lyari gang war. The suspect was identified as Kamran Baloch alias Dakait. Two repeaters, two sub-machine guns and three TT pistols were also recovered from his possession.
