2 militants killed, 15 suspects held in Charsadda

CHARSADDA: Two militants were killed and 15 suspected persons were arrested in a search operation after an attack on the police station in Sro Killay in Shabqadar tehsil, official sources said on Wednesday night.

 

The sources said that the militants fired four rockets at the under-construction building of the police station in Sro Killay but it caused no loss of life. The police also returned the fire that continued for sometime.

Following the incident, security forces, police and the Frontier Constabulary launched search operation in various parts of Michni area that continued till late in the morning.



Talking to reporters, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shabqadar Zahir Shah said that militant commander Hamza son of Abdul Mannan, who recently returned from Afghanistan, was killed after he attacked the security forces with a hand grenade on the Garangi Road. He said Hamza was wanted to the law-enforcement agencies in cases of abduction for ransom and murder.

Another militant, whose identity could not be ascertained, was killed in Bhai Kor during the search, the DSP said, adding that the security forces had taken into custody eight suspected persons for interrogation. Another seven persons were also being held in the lockup, he said.
