Nowshera: Lady doctor booked for death of woman
NOWSHERA: The protesting family members and relatives of a woman, who died during labour at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Friday, lodged a first information report (FIR) against the lady doctor on duty after accusing her of negligence in the provision of timely treatment to the deceased mother.
The protesters led by Gohar Ali, husband of the 20-year-old Zait Bibi, told reporters that his wife was writhing in pain in the labour-room of the DHQ and gave birth to twins. However, his wife died, as Dr Maimoona and other duty staff in the hospital did not pay her due attention, he said.
He alleged that when his wife was admitted to the Gynae Ward, the doctor just examined her casually and left the labour-room, saying that she had to attend patients at her private clinic. The man added that his wife died as there was no doctor to provide her timely medical cover. On the occasion, the attendants of other patients said there were three other would-be mothers admitted in the same ward yet the doctor concerned was not coming to provide them treatment.
The family asked the chief minister and the health minister to take action against the accused doctors for dereliction of duty. The young mother who gave birth to twins died soon after delivery and one of the infants also did not survive while the other was shifted to Peshawar for treatment.
Medical Superintendent Dr Akbar Khaksar said that action would be taken against the delinquent doctor and other staff members after an inquiry.
