Sukkur: Participants of jirga booked
SUKKUR: Khanpur Mahar police on Sunday lodged a case against six people who held a jirga held in Gulzar Mahar village of Ghotki on Wednesday.
The jirga had decided that a four-year-old girl be married to an eight-year-old boy to settle a dispute between two groups of Mahar community over a free-will marriage.
Sain Dad Mahar, brother of Sumera, 4, had lodged a complaint against Wadera Rehmat Mahar and Sanjar Mahar who chaired the jirga and Jaffar Mahar, Sachal Mahar, Jiyand Mahar and Mubarak Mahar.
The dispute arose after Ms Farida Mahar, daughter of Sachal Mahar, and Imdad Mahar, son of Gul Mahar, got married in a Larkana court about three months ago. Their parents and elders of the community did not accept the marriage.
The jirga declared Imdad Mahar a karo and Ms Farida kari and decided that Imdad`s sister Sumera, 4, be married to Mohammad Ibrahim Mahar, 8, brother of Farida, and imposed a fine of Rs300,000.
