Jhang: Matrimonial mishap: No ‘money back guarantee’ in marriage
JHANG: A man has approached a panchayat to decide a case against his in-laws for withholding his bride after the wedding on Monday evening.
According to Jhang resident Kherat Muhammad Guzri, he had gotten married to a woman named Nasreen on Monday evening. “During the wedding our families agreed on her dowry including jewellery and Rs80,000 but later they told me she had run away,” he said. Guzri told the panchayat and reporters that several wedding guests later told him that Nasreen was still in the house.
“The girl was previously married and her husband posed as her brother during the nikah. Now they aren’t letting her leave the house,” a wedding guest told reporters. “The family have been trying to scam Guzri into handing over the haq mehr money and jewellery and now that he has they said she was already married,” wedding guest Abdullah Mubeen said. “The bride’s father came outside and apologised profusely saying that his daughter had run away. He denied that any marriage had taken place,” Mubeen said. “I am not leaving here empty handed. I either want my bride or my money back. If she was already married then her family should be arrested,” Guzri said. The panchayat, however, announced that Guzri return home without Nasreen. “We will try to make sure he receives his money but we are trying to avoid any blood shed. There can be no guarantees but he has left,” said panchayat member Haji Asad Babar.
