Karachi: JSQM chief identifies ‘attacker’ in court
Karachi: The chairman of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, Bashir Khan Qureshi, identified on Tuesday Imran Kala as one of the two men who had allegedly opened fire on his car during a protest rally in 2009.
The additional district and sessions judge (Malir) conducted the trial inside the jail on Tuesday. Three of the witnesses, including the JSQM chairman, had their statements recorded before the judge.
Qureshi deposed before the court that his party had been staging a rally in protest against the killing of a party worker on July 21, 2009 when two persons intercepted his car and opened fire.
One of the attackers, Mustafa Zahid Baloch, died in the firing. The other prosecution witness was the driver, Abdul Ghaffar. A policeman also had his statement recorded before the judge.
The court adjourned the bail application of Imran Kala until Thursday. Meanwhile, the same court adjourned till November 12 hearing in a case pertaining to the recovery of illicit weapons allegedly from the car of the JSQM chairman.
Rangers had arrested the JSQM chief along with two of his aides, Badruddin and Shiraz, on September 15 near his Gulshan-i-Hadeed residence, and claimed to have seized illicit weapons.
Two cases under Sections 13-D and 13-E of the Pakistan Arms Ordinance 1965 were registered against Bashir Qureshi at the Steel Town police station.
The police had also registered separate cases against Shiraz and Badruddin under Section 13-D of the Arms Ordinance.
