Rs13m gold robbery at New Sarafa Bazaar
Rawalpindi: Two gunmen took away gold worth Rs13 million from a goldsmith in New Sarafa Bazaar in Shahi Gali in broad daylight on Wednesday, the police spokesman said.
While a gang of five, including three women, committed robbery at the house of renowned lawyer along Peshawar Road in Westridge. The intruders took away cash and gold ornaments to the tune of Rs5 million.
In the first incident, two gunmen entered into a jewellery shop and factory — Samba Jewellers — and held its owner and workers at gunpoint at about 10 a.m., police said. According to police, the intruders collected gold bars and ornaments weighing over two kilograms worth Rs13 million. Police, quoting eyewitnesses, said that the robbers were riding a bike and sped away towards Murree Road.
Police have taken up the case and started investigation. In another incident, three women entered into the house of Advocate Tariq Abbas Tanoli along Range Road, impersonating themselves as housemaids and offered their services to his wife, but she refused to hire them.
In the meantime, two gunmen stormed into the house and held the family members at gunpoint. The intruders locked the family members in a room after tying them with rope and swept away over 80-tola gold ornaments, Rs500,000 in cash and other valuables to the tune of Rs5 million.
The Westridge Police have taken up the case and started investigation. Talking to this scribe, Advocate Tariq Abbas Tanoli said that criminals have made people’s lives a hell. Everybody was feeling insecure. He said that police were playing the role of silent spectators, as if they were a part of criminal gangs.
