25 suspects held, 14 houses demolished in Bara operation
BARA: The security forces arrested at least 25 suspected persons and demolished 14 houses of alleged militants along with a market in the Yousaf Talab and Speen Qabar areas of Bara subdivision in Khyber Agency on Sunday, an official and local sources said.
The sources said the security forces, on the second day of the fresh offensive against the militants, shifted focus from the Nala and Mandikas areas that were vacated by the local population recently at short notice to Yousaf Talab and Speen Qabar populated by the Sepah Afridi tribe, to which the head of the banned Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) Mangal Bagh belongs.
At least 25 suspected persons were arrested and 14 houses of alleged LI militants were demolished. A market comprising eight shops located on Gandaw Road was also bulldozed in Speen Qabar. Some of the persons whose houses were demolished included Arif Khan, Amir Jan, Bahadur Khan, Amir Shah, Karim, Nek Alam, Shoba Gul and Gulab Khan.
Meanwhile, the Tirah-based tribal militia Ansarul Islam (AI) gunned down two alleged murderers in Pirmela area of the valley on Sunday. The sources said the two accused, whose names could not be ascertained, belonged to the Zakhakhel Afridi tribe and were caught by the AI volunteers for allegedly killing four of their fellow tribesmen and women in Maidan some three months back. The accused belonged to the family of Ali Sherzai, an AI volunteer who had been abducted and killed by the LI last year.
