5 TTP militants arrested in Karachi search operation
KARACHI: A commander and four other senior Tehreek-i-Taliban (TTP) Pakistan militants were arrested during a joint search operation carried out by police and Frontier Corps (FC) in different areas of Karachi on Wednesday night. According to police officials, Mullah Usman Ghani and his TTP accomplices were arrested from the Muhammadpur, Kawari and Katti Pahari areas.
Police and FC officials also arrested 16 other suspects during the operation. 300 policemen and 200 FC personnel took part in the operation and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Shah Jehan said that the operation was launched when the information about the presence of criminals in the area was communicated to the police.
According to police officials, the TTP militants were in contact with militants in Waziristan and were planning attacks on high profile government officials and other places. The militants are under detention and are being interrogated.
Six months earlier, three Taliban commanders who were under treatment at a hospital were arrested from the same area.
