Islamabad: 2 Hizb members released by kidnappers
ISLAMABAD: Two out of many missing young activists of the banned outfit Hizbut Tahrir have been released by their abductors after keeping them in illegal confinement for over three months, it is learnt.
Imran Yousafzai and Osama Hanif who were abducted from Islamabad on July 12 and July 22 respectively were released at the end of last month. These young boys claim to have been abducted by intelligence agencies.
Father of Osama Hanif, an employee of a leading cellular company, who went missing from G-11 area of Islamabad when he left home for office, while talking to The News expressed happiness over the return of his son. Osama is a graduate of National University of Science and Technology (NUST) and his father Muhammad Hanif runs a welfare organisation in Islamabad.
Activists of HT claim that one of their fellows Dr Abdul Qayyum was still in punishment cell of abductors. According to a press release of HT, Imran Yousafzai and Osama Hanif were subjected to severe torture by their abductors. “Both these academically brilliant men, members of Hizbut Tahrir, suffered five escalating degrees of torture. They were beaten by sticks and whipped with thin metal wires until blood oozed out of their bodies. These oppressors cut open the scalp of Imran Yusufzai. Their hands were tied behind their back and they were hung from the ceiling, until their shoulders dislocated, with their arms coming out from their sockets!” the press release says.
The press release also says that an assistant of their lawyer was also missing ever since Osama Hanif got recorded his statement before an Islamabad magistrate. It is worth mentioning here that ever since the arrest of Brig Ali Khan by the Pakistan Army for alleged links with the banned outfit Hizbut Tahrir, many young activists of the outfit have also been abducted.
Brig Ali Khan was picked up by the Pakistan Army soon after May 02 Abbottabad debacle and is still in detention for his alleged links with HT. After Brig Ali’s arrest, crackdown on the outfit’s officials was expected and on July 12 Imran Yousafzai, the deputy spokesman of HT, went missing but has come back now. Hayan Khan, another abducted member of HT, is a relative of Osama Hanif and a writ petition of his abduction was also filed in the IHC.
