KARACHI: A man was shot dead in North Nazimabad within the remit of the Hyderi police station late Wednesday night. The police said that Azadar Husain, 32, son of Azhar Husain, a famous tailor, was on his way home after closing his shop in Nagina Square, Hyderi, when attackers shot him at the Landi Kotal chowrangi.

They said the victim suffered three bullet wounds and died on the spot. SHO Shoaib Ibrahim said Mr Husain had been running his tailoring business for a long time, adding that a motive behind his murder was yet to be ascertained.

“It may be a result of some personal enmity or mugging,” the SHO said. Ruling out the possibility of sectarianism being a motive, he argued that the deceased was not an active member of any sectarian organisation. However, he added, a conclusion could be reached only after ascertaining the views of his family members, who were at the moment busy with the funeral.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. The victim was unmarried and a resident of Cosmos Place, Block 16, Federal B Area, the police said. Police registered a case (FIR No 529/2011) against unidentified assailants.
