115 one-wheelers fined, 36 arrested during Eid holidays in Rawalpindi
RAWALPINDI: City Traffic Police (CTP) took strict action against one-wheelers and special drive was launched to curb the activity on Eidul Azha while 115 were fined and over 36 founded indulged in one-wheeling, rash and dangerous driving were sent behind the bars, said Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Ghulam Abbas Tarar on Thursday.
He said special squads of traffic officials deputed on the city roads were already checking the activity but special arrangements were made to check one-wheeling during Eid holidays. He said CTP covered effectively the attractive areas for the one-wheeling. Grand operation was conducted against the violators of the law and those founded indulged in one-wheeling, dangerous and rash driving were issued 115 challan tickets and fined. 36 motorcycles and vehicles were impounded at various police stations of the city, he said, adding efforts to curb the activity are continuing. Tarar said traffic police officers were directed to keep a vigilant eye on the one-wheelers so that action in accordance with the law could be taken against them. Under special arrangements, traffic officials were deployed at Ayub Park, Murree Road near Underpass, Rawal Road, Sixth Road, Stadium Road and other places, he added. Separate squads formed in this regard performed duties under two shifts and covered every sector of the city, said the CTO, adding, night duties of traffic police officers had also been arranged to check severe traffic rules violations including one-wheeling. The traffic officers and circle heads were directed to take stern action against the one-wheelers without discrimination and no one found involved in this dangerous act was spared, he claimed.
