Karachi: Two ‘body snatchers’ get bail
KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Thursday granted bail to two suspects in a case pertaining to theft of human remains from graves. However, the suspects were sent to prison for non-payment of the surety amount.
The police arrested two brothers, Chaitan and Sachin, on Nov 8 for allegedly stealing human remains from graves within the remit of the Gulshan-i-Maymar police station.
The police produced the suspects before the court of judicial magistrate (west) Ashfaq Ahmed Nizamani on Thursday and the court granted them bail against a surety bond of Rs20,000 each as the police had booked them for a bailable offence.
However, they were unable to furnish the surety bond and the magistrate sent them to prison till the payment of the surety. According to the prosecution, the suspects were involved in digging up graves at the Ghulam Mohammad Jokhio graveyard and stealing human remains.
The two Hindu brothers were also allegedly using the human remains to practise black magic, it added. A case (FIR 255/2011) was lodged under Sections 297 (trespassing on burial places etc) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on a complaint of Haji Mohammad at the Gulshan-i-Maymar police station.
