Karachi: Statement of eyewitness recorded in body-theft case
Karachi: Judicial Magistrate (Central) Asif Ahmed recorded the statement of an eye witness in the case of defiling women’s bodies in the Paposhnagar graveyard on Friday.
Recording his statement under Section 64 of CrPC, Abdul Wahid Baloch deposed before the magistrate that he had seen the accused Riaz along with his accomplices running away from the graveyard. He deposed that most of the graves were dug up but he could not see whether he had been defiling the bodies.
According to the prosecution, Riaz, 29, used to sprinkle water on the graves but he had been defiling the corpses of women in the graveyard. A gravedigger Nawaz reported the matter to the police, following which the police planned an operation and trapped the suspect the very next day when a family had just buried the body of a woman in the graveyard. As soon as the relatives left the graveyard, Riaz came to the grave and dug it up to commit his heinous act.
The police arrested him red-handed and during interrogation, he disclosed that he along with his accomplice Waseem had defiled the bodies of at least 65 women during the last eight years.
The North Nazimabad police booked Riaz in FIR No. 516/11 under sections 297 (trespassing burial places), 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural offence) and 354-A (assault, use of criminal force and stripping a woman) of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 6,/9(b) of the Control of Narcotics Substance Act.
