Lahore: Petition for cancellation of Ishaq bail dismissed
LAHORE: A Supreme Court two-judge bench at the Lahore registry on Friday dismissed an appeal of the Punjab Prosecution Department seeking cancellation of the bail granted to Malik Mohammad Ishaq, alleged mastermind of the 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team.
The bench comprising Justice Tassaduq Husain Jillani and Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa observed that the prosecution had miserably failed to produce any convincing evidence against the accused.
A Supreme Court bench on July 10, 2011, had granted bail to Ishaq, who belonged to a banned outfit Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan, that paved a way for his release from jail after 12 years as he had already secured in other cases.
The court while grating bail to the accused also expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of the prosecution in establishing its case against the accused.
Later, the prosecution department filed an appeal and pleaded that certain aspects of the case were not presented before the court.
