Peshawar: Prison officials booked for ‘murder’
PESHAWAR: The East Cantonment Police Station on Friday filed a murder case against former superintendent of Central Prison Peshawar and three other officials in alleged murder of a prisoner.
Those charged included former superintendent Central Prison Peshawar, Sahibzada Shah Jahan, his deputy Ajmal Khan and two other officials. Zafar Mahmood, son of Gulab Khan of Peshawar, was found dead in the prison on June 17.
The authorities termed his death natural. However, the family demanded a probe, which confirmed that the prisoner had died of torture after which the city police were directed to book the four accused jail official in the case.
