Lahore: Police have busted 705 gangs involved in heinous crimes and arrested 2,879 harden criminals in 10 months of the current year.

 

As many as 4,397 cases have been traced against the arrested accused and loot worth Rs378 million seized during the 10 months. More than 31,843 proclaimed offenders and court absconders were also arrested.



This was informed to a meeting chaired by Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmad Raza Tahir here on Saturday. The CCPO was informed that during the same period, Lahore police traced 4,397 cases, including nine cases of murder, two cases of kidnapping for ransom, 14 cases of robbery-cum-murder, 63 cases of dacoity, 1,506 cases of robbery, 2,233 cases of theft and burglary. The police seized loot, including more than Rs 33 million in cash, 291 cars, 782 motorcycles, 1,946 mobile phones, more than four kilo and 19 tola gold ornaments, 49 vans of different types, 45 rickshaws, two mini trucks and seven tractors.

Police have also arrested 19,568 proclaimed offenders in this period. They were wanted in 623 cases of murder, 542 cases of attempt of murder, 582 cases of dacoity, 2,243 cases of theft, 1,474 cases of robbery and 14,104 other cases. As many as 12,275 court absconders were also arrested. Police have registered 4,800 cases and arrested 4,814 accused during the campaign against illegal weapons and seized 54 Kalashnikovs, 221 rifle, 571 guns, 4,094 pistols, 299 revolvers, 48 carbines, 10 Mouzers, 63 daggers, 778 magazines and more than 100,000 bullets.
