Karachi: Two constables and an SHO were left wounded as Godhra Camp residents reacted violently to an attempt to set up a police picket in Sector 11-G, New Karachi Industrial Area.
Tension gripped the area on Monday when a score of residents gathered at the site where the picket was meant to be set up, shouted their displeasure with the law enforcement agencies and pelted them with stones and even shot at them. Two constables, Zeeshan and Ismail were injured.
SHO Liaquatabad Aslam Hayat was shot in the leg. A heavy contingent of law enforcement agencies was called at the scene to disperse the protestors.
According to police, they set up a temporary picket in Ramazan following sectarian violence in the area and they were working on making the post permanent. Over a dozen suspects including a peshimam were detained during the search operation after the situation.
