Karachi: Five, including ANP activist, killed in violent incidents
KARACHI: Five people, including an activist of Awami National Party (ANP) and son of former DIG traffic, were killed in separate acts of violence in the metropolis on Tuesday.
An activist of the ANP was shot dead at PECHS Block 6, within the limits of Tipu Sultan police station. The incident took place in the wee hours of Tuesday when unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle, shot and killed Gull Nawaz, 26, son of Ghaus. After conducting their operation, culprits managed to flee from the scene. Body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities.
SHO Chauhadry Irshad said victim was a resident of Lal Kothi, Sharah-e-Faisal, adding that he was the former vice president of ANP, PECHS Ward and some personal enmity might have motivated the incident.
Following the killing, tension engulfed PECHS and Mehmoodabad areas and unidentified men torched a poultry truck, burning alive some 500 chickens loaded in it. Fire extinguishers controlled the fire and heavy contingent of police was deployed in sensitive areas.
SHO Irshad said victim’s body was sent to his hometown, Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while an FIR (248/11) against unidentified men has been registered on the complaint of victim’s brother Ayaz Khan.
Separately, son of former DIG traffic was shot dead at Main Korangi Road in the limits of Defence police station. Mubashir Moyo, 24, son of Mohammad Umar Moyo, a resident of PECHS Society, was going in his car when unidentified armed motorcyclists sprayed bullets at him. He received four bullets and died on the spot.
A police official informed that locals called police on seeing the blood-covered youngster lying in his car. Body was shifted to JPMC for autopsy.
DSP Zameer Ahmed Abbasi said victim was a businessman and at the time of incident he was going to his second home in Defence Phase VI. Official further informed that police believed victim would have been killed over an affair involving a girl. He hailed from interior Sindh and an FIR (466/11) has been registered under sections 7 ATA and 302/34 on the complaint of his uncle Mazhar.
In another incident, a young man was shot dead in front of his house at Kashti Chowk in the limits of Nappier police station. Zafar, 25, son of Shafi Baloch was sitting outside his home, when unidentified armed motorcyclists stopped by and shot him nine times.
SHO Imtiaz Niazi said police believed some personal enmity or Lyari warfare might have motivated the incident. Body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for post mortem and later handed over to the family. Case was to be registered till filing of this story.
Meanwhile, police found a teenager’s torture-marked body from a video shop at Nazimabad within the precincts of Rizvia police station. Locals of Nazimabad No 1 behind Nadria Hotel informed police about the presence of a youth’s body in the shop. Police rushed to the scene and shifted the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Doctor ascertained that the victim was killed after being molested.
Duty Officer Mahmood Ali said after the issuance of post mortem report, police have arrested the video shop’s owner Alam Zaib. The identity of the victim is yet to be ascertained. Case was to be registered till filing of this story.
Similarly, police found a torture-marked body from Christian Graveyard, Baldia within the jurisdiction of Saeedabad police station. The identity of the victim is yet to be ascertained. Police official said that the body was about eight days old and also had some torture marks on it. Victim appeared to be of 30 years of age and was donned in Shalwar Kameez, he added. Body was shifted to CHK for medico-legal formalities and later moved to Edhi morgue for identification.
