Karachi: Former DIG’s son among three shot dead
Karachi: At least three people, including a son of a former Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), were killed in different parts of the city on Tuesday.
Mubashir Morio, 30, was gunned down in A-Market, Phase-II, DHA-Extension in Defense police limits late Monday night.
According to police, the deceased was a son of former DIG Umer Morio and he owned a property business. He had left his home in Block-VI, PECHS by telling the family that he was going for some work and would return late.
Morio had gone to Phase-II, DHA, to meet someone in a building there. The deceased had reached the area at about 11:30pm and had left the building at 00:15am in his car bearing a government registration number. When Morio covered a few yards distance from the said place, some unidentified armed men, riding a motorcycle, intercepted him and fired at him. The area people immediately called the police following which SHO Defence PS Raja Mushtaq reached the crime scene and shifted the injured to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
SHO Mushtaq said the deceased received four bullet wounds on various parts of his body and added that Morio might have been killed in some enmity. However, police were investigating the case.
Meanwhile, Zafar Gabol, owner of a construction business, was gunned down in Timber Market area in Lyari on Tuesday night.
SP Akram Abro of City Town said that Zafar Gabol was running a family construction business in Lyari and he was shot dead by unidentified armed men, riding a motorcycle, while he was talking to his friends outside his house near Waja Umer Mansion of which he was the sole owner.
The deceased received nine bullet wounds on various parts of his body that caused his instant death. The police recovered 9 to 10 empty casings of 9mm and TT pistols.
Zafar Gabol’s father and mother had left for Hajj to Saudi Arabia and were scheduled to return home on Wednesday morning. The police had asked his younger brother about any threat or enmity but he was in a state of shock and he only said that they had no enmity with anyone.
Zafar Gabol had married only two months ago and was living a happy life. The police sent Gabol’s body to Edhi mortuary house in Sohrab Goth after completing legal formalities and his funeral rites would be offered following the arrival of his parents.
SP Abro said that he had asked his intelligence officers as to whether they had any information regarding extortion or any other threat extended to the deceased by any criminal group, to which they replied in negative. However, police were investigating the matter.
Meanwhile, one Safdar Ali was shot dead in Dawood Chali area in Quaidabad police limits late Monday night. He was the resident of the said place and was sitting outside his house when unidentified armed men, riding a motorcycle, appeared there and shot him dead. He received three bullet wounds on various parts of his body.
Police said that the deceased was earlier arrested in a criminal case and was presently on bail, adding, he might have been killed in some enmity. Safdar hailed from Haripur, Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa. Police were probing the matter.
