Islamabad: NH&MP foils bid to smuggle arms
Islamabad: The National Highways & Motorway Police (NH&MP), foiling an attempt to transport huge cache of arms and ammunition to Punjab, arrested two men who were riding in a car in the wee hours of Thursday, the NH&MP said.
The NH&MP officials stopped a Toyota Corolla car, bearing registration number LOZ-3747, near Chakri link road. During search of the vehicle, arms and ammunition were recovered from secret cavities of the car, including four sniper rifles with 3 telescopes, one ranch rifle, four SMGs, eight 30-bore pistols, one 12-bore rifle and thousands of bullet rounds. The large quantity of weapons was being transported to Lahore from Peshawar for what seems to be a brazen act of terrorism.
The culprits Saifullah and Ilyas were taken into custody by ASI Abid of the Neela Police Station. DIG Motorways Muhammad Shafiq has lauded efforts of the motorway police officials for the swift action against miscreants and saving the city of Lahore from the gory repercussions.
