Mardan: 2 suspects arrested, explosives recovered
MARDAN: The police said on Friday that they had arrested two suspected people carrying explosive material in the limits of the Katlang Police Station on the Lundkhwar road near Munawar Khan Banda.
They said that during checking, the police stopped a motorbike and recovered 10 kilograms of explosives, four tins of vegetable ghee and 400 detonators and arrested Zaiur Rehman, hailing from Sakhakot, Malakand Agency, and Mir Hussain Shah from Katlang in Mardan district and registered a case against them.
The militants have stepped up their activities in Mardan district and bombed several schools for boys and girls in the limits of Chura, Jabbar and Katlang police stations. On November 9, the militants blew up the Government Girls High School in Dheray village, located in the limits of Katlang Police Station. The blast also damaged the house of late ANP MPA, Muhammad Iqbal Khan located in the vicinity.
Earlier, the Government Primary School in Shamozai village near Katlang and a few in other areas of Mardan district were attacked with explosives. The activities of the militants have caused concern among the people in Mardan district.
