Lahore: Dacoits kill youth on resistance
LAHORE: Dacoits shot dead a 25-year-oldmotorcyclist on offering resistance during armedrobbery here in Kahna police area, police officials said on Wednesday.
Local residents said that unidentified robbers were looting motorists and passers-by by setting up a picket near Buddoki in Kahna area late on Tuesday night.
The gunmen intercepted a motorcyclist, later identified as Muhammad Irshad, at the picket, held him up at gunpoint and demanded cash and mobile phone. As the youth offered resistance, the bandits opened straight fire at him and fled away after snatching his mobile phone and purse, containing thousands of rupees. The police reached the spot when the robbers had fled away. Later, the police removed the body to the morgue for an autopsy. The police also registered the case murder against unidentified robbers and are investigating with no arrest made so far.
On Wednesday, the police handed over the body to the victim family after the autopsy. Locals said that many emotional scenes were witnessed as the dead body was brought to the village of the deceased from the City morgue in an ambulance.
Meanwhile, hundreds of villagers gathered at Ferozepur Road in Kahna area and staged a strong protest demonstration against the Punjab government. The protesters also blocked the traffic at the leading artery by setting the tyres on fire, disrupting the traffic flow in the area for several hours. They said that the PML-N led provincial government has badly failed to provide protection to the lives and property of the citizens. They were of the view that armed robberies and killings during dacoities have become order of the day in the area while the police are not interested to provide protection to the public. Some of the protesters alleged that the local police were patronizing the gangsters.
