Islamabad: Tarnol Police recover 7,200 liquor bottles

ISLAMABAD: The Tarnol Police have recovered a huge quantity of liquor at Tarnol Chowk, which was being smuggled to Islamabad, and arrested three men in this connection, the police spokesman said on Thursday.

 

Acting on a tip-off regarding smuggling of wine in a truck, the Tarnol Police enhanced checking and constituted a team supervised by SHO Tarnol Fazalur Rehman, including Sub-Inspector Ghulam Mustafa Kamal, Assistant Sub-Inspector Abdul Ghafoor and Head Constable Tahir Abbas.

The team stopped a truck, bearing registration number RIK-257, at a police picket near Tarnol Chowk on GT Road. Police managed to recover 7,200 bottles of liquor of various brands, which were concealed in cartons.



 

Police arrested all three men on board, who were identified as Javed Iqbal, driver, Zahoor Khan, conductor, and Abbas Khan, belonging to Havelian, Abbottabad.

A copy of the permit regarding import of wine to a local hotel was produced before police, which was found expired. Police have impounded the truck and further investigation into the matter is underway.

Meanwhile, the Tarnol Police nabbed Sartaj after recovery of 1.520 kilograms of hashish from him. The Women’s Police Station took into custody Rajesh Khan after recovery of ten bottles of wine from him. The Industrial Area Police Station nabbed two thieves namely Khan Wazeer and Izzatullah and recovered 14 stolen mobile phones from them.
