Karachi: 3 caught taking extortion
KARACHI: Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) staff and police on Saturday claimed to have arrested extortionists in New Karachi.
Khalid Noor of the CPLC said that on November 24 the CPLC received a complaint from one Nazeer alleging that some suspects were demanding Rs0.1 million in ransom from him.
The suspects had already extorted Rs150,000 from him sometime ago.
The CPLC and North Nazimabad police started investigations and let the complainant negotiate with the suspects. The deal was finalised at Rs35,000.
On November 26, the extortionists told Nazeer to bring the amount to a place near Nagan Chowrangi.
The CPLC and police team conducted surveillance of the area and caught three men, Shakeel, Kamran alias Kashif and Akbar, red-handed while they receiving the amount. Three TT Pistols were recovered from those arrested.
A case has been registered at the North Nazimabad Police Station. Further investigations are under way.
