Lahore: Robbers kill three in a week
LAHORE: Robbers turned violent during the last week as they killed three innocent persons on resistance and left seven others seriously injured while depriving over 150 citizens of cash, valuables, gold ornaments, cars and motorbikes.
Commanders of Lahore Police remained busy in holding meetings with one another with divisional SPs while the robbers continued looting the people to their satisfaction.
As reaching at the crime scene after minimum half an hour of the incident has become a routine of Lahore Police, robbers not only loot unarmed citizens but also took their lives if anybody tried to even stare at them knowing that they are free to do whatever they like in absence of police.
Due to very poor response of police, especially Mujahid Squad Police, which is meant to respond to Rescue 15 calls immediately but it keep itself busy in ‘looting’ citizens, Lahorites rightly claim that police patronize robbers.
It is amazing to note here that Rescue 1122 with very small infrastructure responds to every emergency call within seven minutes no matter incident occurs in Shahdara Town, Chuhng, Raiwind and Burki or any far-flung area of the City but Lahore Police, with a huge infrastructure, ‘feel proud’ to reach late at every crime scene.
In our neighboring country–India, police respond to emergency calls in seven minutes and if any official fails to respond timely, the entire hierarchy of police station is suspended from service. However, in Pakistan in general and in Lahore in particular, people are killed like animals but it never moves jawans of police.
The chief minister cries out for a change in police culture/response in every meeting on law and order but bosses of Lahore Police, deeming it a routine, start enjoying the perks at their offices again. Recently, CM Shahbaz Sharif directed Inspector General of Punjab Police Javed Iqbal to hold regular meetings with the commanders of district/regional police to discuss crime situation. First meeting was also held on Saturday and now masses have to wait for its fruit/miracle.
On Saturday, robbers robbed the house of a construction company owner in Township but police reached the scene after more than half an hour. In Shahdara, robbers looted cash and valuables from two separate places but police could not reach in time. Consequently, the victims and locals of the area had to stage protest against police on the GT Road which ultimately created trouble for commuters.
Eight robbers looted two jewelry shops in the Mozang area in a broad daylight and shot injured a trader. The traders, in retaliation, injured a robber but even then, Lahore Police could not arrest the injured robber and his accomplices till date. During the last one week, three people were killed on resistance and seven others were left injured. In Model Town Police division, they killed one Irshad and injured an old man in another robbery bid on resistance in the Kahna police limits. Robbers also deprived over 30 citizens of valuables including eight motorcycles and six cars were also stolen. Incharge Investigation Kahna police, Irfan Elahi, said that they were trying their best to trace robbers-cum-killers but could not arrest any of them so far. However, he said, that they had taken nine suspects in custody for interrogation. He also said that same dacoits had also looted four other citizens on the same day.
In Iqbal Town division, robbers deprived over 25 citizens of cash, gold ornaments, cell phones and valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees. Out of the reported incidents, three motorbikes and one car were also lifted.
In City division, around 22 citizens were looted out of which five motorcycles and one car were also lifted. Robbers had also shot at and injured one Ajmal on offering resistance. However, a robber was killed in Shahdara not by police but by a security guard of jewellery shop on Lajpat Road during a robbery bid. Shahdara police have so far failed to trace two accomplices of the killed robber.
In Cantt division, 20 citizens were deprived of cash, gold ornaments and valuables including one motorbike and three cars. Robbers had also shot at and injured three brothers on resistance in Hurbanspura. The victims and locals of the area managed to arrest two robbers and handed them over to police. However, police have taken credit of arresting the robbers in their official record.
In Civil Lines division, around 18 citizens were deprived of cash and valuables out of which four motorcycles and two cars were also stolen or snatched.
In Sadr division, around 16 citizens were looted and one motorbike and a car were also taken away. One Raza Askari’s nephew parked his car (LZU-1985) in Wapda Market on Saturday in Sattukatla police limits and as he returned after 10 minutes his car was missing. Police have registered a case with no clue so far.
Robbers had also killed two persons and shot at and injured two others on resistance in the Sadr division in as many days. A youth, Bilal, was killed and his friend, Shahzad, was injured in Muhafiz Town, Chuhng police, on Thursday while on Saturday, robbers killed a truck driver, Fazal Karim, on resistance. Another man, named Shahid, was also injured by robbers on resistance in Johar Town.
Incharge Investigation Chuhng police, Saleem Sandhu, said they could not make any breakthrough in the investigation of the incident so far. To a question, he said different gangs were operating in the area and they were trying to bust their network.
Moreover, it would be unfair not to mention the performance of CIA Police during the last week. They traced out the killer of 11 years old Bisma, who was kidnapped for ransom by her cousin and later killed in Nawankot. The CIA police had also traced out the killer of three persons in Islampura who turned out to be the real brother of one victim and uncle of two others. The incident of Nawankot was traced within one week time and triple murder was traced on the day of incident within 12 hours.
