2 gang-rape victims, kin stage demo in Jhang
JHANG: Two gang-rape victims with their relatives staged a demonstration against Kot Shakir police for not arresting the nominated accused outside District Courts on Tuesday.
Talking to The News, victims Perveen Bibi and Abida, residents of Mauza Shah Mehmood, said that Mukhtar, Altaf and Javed with three accomplices barged into their house in the absence of male members and raped them at gunpoint over litigation. They said that on their hue and cry, villagers reached there and the accused managed to escape. They said that the medical examination proved the charges and the Kot Shakir police registered a case (164/11) under section 376(II) of the PPC. They said that the police had failed to arrest the accused even after 15 days and the accused were roaming in the village.
They said that the culprits wanted to occupy their agriculture land. “The accused are threatening to again sexually assault our women if they did not stop pursuing the case. The police are pressurising us to withdraw the case,” they alleged. They appealed to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, IGP Punjab Javed Iqbal and DPO Abdul Kareem to take notice of the situation and order the Kot Shakir SHO to arrest the culprits immediately.
