Karachi: Grave terror plot foiled
Karachi: The police on Tuesday recovered a huge quantity of arms and explosives from a graveyard in Faqeer Colony, and arrested a gravedigger on suspicion.
The police claimed terrorists were planning a major attack to disturb peace on Muharram.
The graveyards of the city have lately been in the limelight as reports suggest that the criminals have now barged into the domain of the dead.
On November 9, the police claimed to have arrested two people for stealing dead bodies and bones from a graveyard in Gadap Town. Earlier, in the month of October, a graveyard caretaker was held for necrophilia.
On Tuesday, the police and rangers, acting on a tip-off, raided a graveyard in Faqeer Colony and found three gunny bags in one of the graves.
When the bags were opened, the police recovered 30 kilogrammes of explosive material along with three packets of detonators, four hand grenades, 14 TT pistols, two 7 MM rifles, two 9 MM pistols, one Kalashnikov and over 200 bullets of the light machine gun (LMG).
SP SITE Shah Jahan said that the suspects were planning to attack major installations in Muharram. He claimed that they have detained two suspects, a gravedigger and his helper, from the graveyard.
