Karachi: Dawat-i-Islami leader shot dead
KARACHI:A leader of the Dawat-i-Islami (DI) was gunned down on Sunday night near Maria Apartments on Anda Morr in the Sharea Noor Jehan police limits.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim was on his motorcycle and dropping a woman home. As soon as he reached the area, two armed motorcyclists opened fire on Hafiz Ahmed, leaving him critically injured.
The public present at the scene rushed the injured to the Abbasi Shaheed hospital, where he succumbed to his bullet wounds during treatment. As the news of his death spread, activists and leaders of the DI reached the hospital and staged a protest, demanding the immediate arrest of the killers.
Investigators said that the deceased was a property dealer and also owned a society by the name of Gulshan-i-Noorain in the Gulistan-i-Jauhar area. They added that there was an ongoing dispute over the plot and the deceased’s brother-in-law, Shahid, had also been gunned down in this connection in 2007.
The police believed that Hafiz Ahmed was killed by the same group. However, since it is premature to determine the exact motive, they were also looking into the case from other angles, including murder on sectarian grounds. The deceased was a resident of Yousuf Goth in Surjani Town.
In a separate case, the strangled body of a woman was found from house A-46 on 11th Commercial Street of Gizri, DHA.
The police said that on Sunday afternoon, the station received a call from a tenant of the house, Adil, who said he overheard a dispute at the house. A patrolling mobile rushed towards the scene and as soon as it reached, the police were told that the cook of the house, Sheru, had fled and the upstairs door was locked. The police moved at the first floor of the bungalow, broke open the gate and found the dead body of a woman later identified as 50-year old Shaheed Kamal, wife of late Arshad Kamal.
Adil told the police that an hour before the murder, he overheard a heated argument between the landlord lady Shaheed and her cook Sheru. After some time, they saw Sheru was running away from the bungalow and decided to inform the police.
Investigators said that the murdered woman was living alone in the house, while her only son was living in the United States. It seems that the lady had an argument with the cook upon, which the domestic servant strangulated her to death. A case was reported and investigations under way.
