Islamabad: 144 cases of Telegraph Act violation filed with courts in 4 months
ISLAMABAD: In last four months from August to November, 144 cases of Telegraph Act were filed with District Court against alleged persons for being involved in making obnoxious, abusive, threatening phone calls, reveals record available at district court.
The court of Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Yaar Muhammad Gondal has received 45 complaints of violation of this act, in which 22 complaints are regarding obnoxious calls, 14 threatening and nine regarding trouble-making calls and miscellaneous.
ASJ Wajaht Hussain’s court received 28 complaints. In which 16 complaints are about obnoxious calls, eight about threats and four regarding trouble-making calls and miscellaneous.
The court of ASJ Kamran Mufti has received 31 complaints of telegraph act, 16 regarding obnoxious calls, nine threatening and six regarding trouble making calls and miscellaneous.
Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate Kashif Qayum court has received 22 complaints of telegraph act, in which 11 regarding obnoxious calls, five regarding threat calls and six regarding trouble-making calls and miscellaneous.
The court of Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate Naeem Shaukat has received 18 complaints of telegraph act, in which 10 are regarding obnoxious calls, six regarding threatening and two regarding trouble-making calls and miscellaneous.
According to Telegraph Act, Any person, including a telegraph officer, who uses any telephone, public or private, for causing annoyance or intimidation to any person, whether a subscriber or not, or for obnoxious calls, shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both.
According to police official, telegraph crime specially includes obnoxious, threatening and abusive language from unknown numbers. He said that mostly in this kind of matter a personal garage has involved.
He said that in Pakistan telegraph crime is increasing in different ways, i.e. cyber stalking, in which with intent to coerce, intimidate, or harass any person uses computer, computer network, internet, network site, electronic mail or any other similar means of communication to communicate obscene, vulgar, profane, lewd, lascivious, or indecent language, picture or image and make any suggestion or proposal of an obscene nature.
He said that another foam of telegraph crime is spamming, in which transmits harmful, fraudulent, misleading, illegal or unsolicited electronic messages in bulk to any person without the express permission of the recipient.
According to court official in year 2009, 74 cases registered against telegraph crime, in 2010, 96 cases registered against persons who involved in that act and in current year the ratio of that crime is increasing every day.
While talking to Daily Times Telegraph Crime cases expert Advocate Haroon Alvi said that the country facing many problems varying from poverty, unemployment, financial and political all those issues will increase the number of telegraph crime and telegraph criminals.
He said that there should be a media awareness campaign to aware the people in our society about positive use of such technologies.
Federal Police Spokesman Muhammad Naeem talking to Daily Times said that the police should take strict action against those kinds of matter.
He said there is no doubt the telegraph crime is increasing in current year, the police with the help of other relevant technical team should make a proper plan to stop these kinds of crime. He said mostly in these kind of cases people could not reported therefore the telegraph crime increasing.
